The Foundation, as you may already be aware, has tried for more than seven years to purchase the site known as "Armstrong Quarry" - 34.5 acres of land and approximately 5 acres of water. Also the land adjacent, ex. NCB - now belonging to "English Partnership", approximately 40 acres of land - in order to develop the site into a "Watercrafts Centre of Excellence" that will be unique globally.

Armstrong Quarry is an ideal site for the Watercrafts Complex - it is situated approximately 5 minutes from the North/Southbound M1 carriageway, near Worksop, 20 minutes to Sheffield - as near to centre of the UK as you can get!
If you read some of our supporting letters, you will see that the experts agree with the viability of the site for such a project!
Those of you who are familiar with the quarry will know that, prior to it's draining of the water many years ago, it was - in it's own right, already a centre for watersports enthusiasts and instructors, who used it very regularly.

Back in the days ...
Armstrong Quarry before it was drained (pictures taken about 7/8 years ago)
before the quarry was drained, canoeing etc was happening here regularly

The Watercrafts Complex ..
This is our on-going major project
:

We want to purchase, transform and develop the site currently known as Armstrong Quarry to facilitate all types of Environmentally Friendly Watersports e.g: Sailing, Canoeing, Navigation.
For most recent development reports - check on the News section.

The Centre will incorporate many facilities - the extent of which will mean that the Centre will require 35+ full and part time personnel to operate initially and, as the complex develops this requirement will no doubt increase.
The general public will have access to all facilities on a membership or pay-as-you-go basis - Use of qualified instructors and equipment.
Our special needs children will all be closely supervised and involved in group activities and training.
The diving school will be restricted to fee paying students subject to medical approval, and will be kept separate from the leisure centre for safety reasons.
(We may need to use a pre-booking system at busy times to keep the members happy)
When completed, the centre will provide a Bar & Restaurant, Accommodation, Lecture rooms, Gymnasium, Sauna, Medical facilities, Workshop, Diveshop, Cafe, Hyperbaric oxygen chamber, Research & Development.
(Find out about the planned Specialised Commercial Courses
that the site is capable of accommodating)

Most of the facilities at the Complex will be available to the public.
We plan to attract the sporting community with a football/rugby/cricket pitch and mini golf course etc. the centre will also provide it's own diesel electric power for economy and safety.
Apart from full and P/T employment opportunities for the local community we hope the extra influx of visitors will help to revitalise the whole area with increased trade for Shops, Hotels, B&Bs, etc.
The leisure centre will provide much needed jobs in a depreciated community while the diving centre will provide training to professional and N.V.Q. standards.
All this will provide funding for the most important part of our project which is ensuring deprived children not only learn something of value but have a fun time too. Anywhere that people gather and meet gives a sense of community that we want our special kids to feel a part of, without feeling like charity cases.
Training facilities, aid and encouragement will also be provided for Senior and Elderly students, The Emergency Services, Cave Divers etc.
The Watercrafts Complex will be Unique Globally, both in context and content, owned by the people - for the benefit of the people.

Always Focusing on Young People ..
Taking 12-16 year old underprivileged, blind, handicapped, delinquent children and children with drugs problems, and teaching them the pleasures and responsibilities of underwater diving.
We also aim to teach the value of team work and looking after ones "buddies" in the underwater environment ... they'll be finishing the course with certificates in life-saving, first aid
(St John's Ambulance) plus scuba diving to N.V.Q. standard, through to HSE Professional Standard.
After they have gained their certification they will be encouraged to return on regular diving visits and if they are interested in taking further diving courses (maybe to become dive instructors or enter the professional side of diving) we would provide for all our students support, assistance and we will monitor their careers, free of charge.
Training will take place in Ponds Forge and Armstrong Quarry.
We hope to generate in our students, a respect for discipline, education and authority and increase their understanding of the importance of learning and listening skills. This will help them in other aspects of their maturing process and encourage them to take an active and responsible role in society.
Also available to all students will be powerboat handling, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and rowing, basic navigation and seamanship, taught by fully qualified instructors (free of charge) for those who wish to participate.
